I National Meeting of Traditional Cooks

Members of the Conservatory of Gastronomic Culture Sinaloense AC chaired by Mr. Jaime Félix Pico, attended the First National Meeting of Traditional Cooks, in the city of Morelia, Michoacán, last Thursday, August 20 and the V National Meeting of State Delegates of the Conservatory of the Mexican Gastronomic Culture SC Dr. Gloria López Morales presides, which was developed with the presence of 40 State Delegates who presented their annual reports to integrate them into the annual report that UNESCO gives to the CCGM.

Mr. Jaime Félix Pico participated as a speaker lecturing on the “Safeguarding and Preservation of Traditional Cuisine: The Sinaloa Case”, before those attending the National Meeting, where he made important proposals on the statutory reform of the CCGM; and the design of public policies for the promotion of gastronomy, Lic. Delia Moraila Moya and Elina Benítez de López, of the CCGS Board of Directors, presented the annual report of activities carried out in Sinaloa in the current financial year 2014/2015. These events were attended by Mrs. Sofía de López, President of DIF SInaloa on behalf of Governor Mario López Valdéz; she inaugurated the Sinaloa stand, where samples of the most traditional Sinaloan dishes were presented under the preparation of Marcos Osuna, from the rambler El Mesón de los Laureanos in El Quelite, Mazatlán. On behalf of the Secretary of Tourism of the State, Maria Elena Arias, Director of Training and Tourism Innovation attended.

The central theme that occupied the attention of the attendees of the two national events was the decision of the President EPN to implement a public policy to promote national gastronomy, in this way traditional cuisine becomes a transversal axis to promote social development and economic, particularly in the Tourism Sector. Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Secretary of Tourism, at the opening of the National Meeting, spoke about the importance of this political decision that places Mexican traditional gastronomy on the federal public agenda. In this new context, the CCGM and the State Conservatories will play a leading role in promoting the announced policy, as stated by Dr. Gloria López Morales, President of the CCGM.
